In Humanities, we started off this social enlightenment project by looking at "Hair Stories", which are basically times in which someone has been judged. They're called "Hair Stories" because the term first came about as a word for stories that African American individuals would tell about judgement they suffered due to their different types of hair. Later, it expanded to include all types of judgement. From there, we wrote our own Hair Stories about times when we have been judged. After those were completed, we got into 6 person groups and then adapted one of our Hair Stories (or an original story) into a play. My group's was about an older woman judging a group of teenagers, and how that situation played out.
I think, out of all the Humanities work we did, I'm fairly proud of out script. Our first draft was really messy, and it took a lot of work to fix it up and get it up to par, so I'm very proud that me and my group were able to do that. If I were given more time to work on it, however, I would've liked to work on making it longer and fleshing out the characters more. We just didn't have the time to make more complicated characters work. The script was definitely what I contributed the most to. I had a relatively smalle part in the actual performance, but I did most of the blocking, writing, and editing, so I'm happy with my contributions. For next semester's exhibition, I want to be able to do some more research-based work, as I felt that that was really missing from this one. This semester I utilized Perspective in Humanities a ton, as our whole play hinged on the concept of characters misunderstanding each other but realizing that by looking at the situation from a different perspective, Next semester I plan to use Evidence more, as it falls in line with more research-based presentation. Below you can view the script for my play.
